Binder Magnetic is keen to focus its marketing efforts on the internet. In 2017, the company therefore built a first website to showcase its entire product range (with the help of bb&b). The system was developed on a WordPress WooCommerce platform. Over time, the database grew and, with additional languages, eventually reached a size where the WordPress WooCommerce platform came to its limits. Accessing thousands of products, datasheets and 3D data became too slow and frustrating. In 2022, the decision was made to migrate the existing website to a new technology.
After comparing various technology options in terms of efficiency, flexibility and cost, bb&b recommended to migrate the site from the current technology to Prestashop. Compared to WordPress with WooCommerce, Prestashop offers a streamlined database structure that handles requests swiftly, which is essential for a large catalogue with more than 10,000 products and 250.000 attributes.
The client asked for an identical transposition of the existing website aesthetics and ergonomics to the new platform. The new website offers a smooth and efficient user interface. The Ajax filters enable fast search and display of complex information, ensuring W3C best practices are met. Data sheets are generated dynamically based on information retrieved from the database. The latter is easily administered via the back office via .csv files, providing full autonomy to the client regarding catalogue updates. The site provides access to a comprehensive catalogue in two languages, displaying more than 10,000 products.
The PrestaShop architecture has been customised by an override of the Symfony framework to offer utmost reactivity when searching the database and displaying product information.
The migration reduced the site’s response time by a factor of 3 to 4, while maintaining the sober aesthetics and ergonomics of the original design. As a result, customer acceptance was swift. New products have since been added without any noticeable impact on page speed.
